Harder. Better. Faster. Stronger. Shake Shack Upgrades Back-End Screen Tech
Shake Shack is adding Expo Screens by Kitchen Armor and Elo to the back-end kitchen operations of its 70-plus locations. Kitchen Armor manufactures stainless steel touchscreen enclosures. Elo’s open-frame touchscreens will compile all the components of each customer’s order in the final moments before the order is fulfilled to ensure that nothing is missing.
Shake Shack expects the Expo Screens to improve both the speed and accuracy of orders by reducing manual errors within the process.
“Speed is of the essence in our fast-paced, high-volume Shacks, and the new Expo Screens have enabled us to execute at a higher rate by reducing training time, increasing accuracy, and boosting overall guest satisfaction,” says Phil Crawford, vice president of information technology at Shake Shack.
The selected 2293L-model touchscreen provides a 22-inch, open-frame display designed to withstand the heavy usage of a quick-service restaurant kitchen environment. It runs on Elo’s own TouchPro technology and is sealed against dirt and dust.
Those screens are encased in Kitchen Armor’s practically indestructible stainless steel shells, which are gasket-sealed and configured to respond to gestures and multi-point touch, even when users are wearing latex or cloth gloves (as they, of course, must in a food service environment).
Our quick-service restaurant “customers need an efficient kitchen line that consistently delivers a positive customer experience,” said Craig Witsoe, CEO of Elo. “Partners like Kitchen Armor help us build unique solutions that meet the specific needs of customers like Shake Shack. Our open-frame touchscreen fitted into Kitchen Armor’s enclosure creates an ideal solution for high-volume kitchens.”
The companies have also partnered to deploy Elo’s I-Series for Android in restaurants, bars and kitchens to provide greater durability as well as space savings. The all-in-one touchscreen units are available in a 10-inch, 15-inch and 22-inch size and run on either Android or Windows operating systems.
